Loc. S. Maroto
La visita a Pievebovigliana inizia dal Castello, o meglio da ciò che resta dopo il 1528, quando le truppe di Caterina Cybo lo distrussero per punirne la ribellione. L’antico maniero, del quale è ancora riconoscibile la struttura a vascello, è circondato da in complesso tipicamente medievale, tutto scalette e viuzze, che offre al visitatore suggestivi percorsi. Entro la struttura romanica, nella parte alta del nucleo castellano, sorge la parrocchiale di S. Maria Assunta.
Castle
A visit to Pievebovigliana begins with the Castle, or what is left standing of it after 1528 when Caterina Cybo’s troops practically destroyed it in reprisal for the rebellion. The old manor’s ‘boat-like’ shape is still recognisable, and is surrounded by a typically medieval complex of stairs and alleyways which make for pleasing forays for the tourist. Within the Romanesque structure, in the higher part of the castle, is the parochial church of S. Maria Assunta.
